Mary here, Richard’s daughter.
Dad “Moved on” (his words) peacefully in his sleep in the small hours of this morning, Feb 17th.
He had a full life by anyone’s measure, and was particularly moved by all the lovely messages, comments, visits and calls he received. He told me he felt very lucky to have so many lovely friends.
Love to all from me, Paul, Lavinia and the extended family.
Good bye, Richard. I’ll miss you. Lots of love to Lavinia, Mary, Paul and the rest of the family.
Marco
Thank you for keeping us in touch with Richard, Mary. Although I wasn’t in his close circle of friends, I felt a warm connection with him for over 30 years at the labs and afterwards, and genuinely felt privileged to have known him. He was a real polymath, with whom you could discuss a vast range of subjects. I learned a lot! His weekly presence on the badminton court was a joyful experience. He will be greatly missed. Love and condolences to you, Lavinia and the rest of the family.
Claudia and I are deeply saddened by Richard’s passing. We were privileged to have known him. All of our love to each of you and special thoughts to Lavinia this February day. Greg & Claudia

On behalf of all the many members of the STL Quarter Century Club we were proud to have had Richard as a long-standing member. His role as keeper of the archives about some of the most important work done in Telecommunications in the last century has been invaluable.
Our collective thoughts will be with all the family and we will remember him fondly at our next meeting
Ian Vance – President STL QCC

So saddened to hear of this…Richard was an amazing and lovely man to work with, he kept me sane and challenged me in equal measure. One of a kind that’s for sure and if his soul is anywhere now you can bet he’s bringing joy.
Many condolences to you Lavinia, Mary and Paul and your friends and family x
The saddest news, goodbye Richard and best wishes to all family and friends
All best wishes to you all, thanks for sharing Richard’s story and being so inspirational. Carol and Martin at no. 6 x
Thinking of Richard lots after a deeply moving 5 Rhythms last night. His presence was very strong, as so many friends reflected on his life. Although I didn’t know him well, he offered kind words during a tough time a few years back, and his constant smile on the dance floor is unforgettable. Sending Lavinia many thoughts.
